To make the sponge base, beat softened butter with sugar until light and fluffy, for about 4 to 5 minutes.

Pour the cake batter into the prepared springform cake pan. Distribute it evenly using a spatula.

Evenly distribute thinly sliced apples on top of the batter. Set it aside and start preparing the crumble to top the cake.

Cover the apples with the crumble. Bake it for 35 minutes or until the crumble looks golden brown and the cake is fully cooked.

Let it rest for an hour before serving with a scoop of ice cream. Or you can drizzle on caramel or maple syrup if you fancy some extra sweetness.
