Ingredients You'll Need
Please scroll down to the recipe card below for the full ingredients list with measurements, complete recipe method, recipe notes, and nutritional information.
- Ground beef - Just like my delicious Mince Beef Pie and Sulu Kofte - Turkish Meatball Soup, I prefer using ground beef with a minimum of %15 fat content for the perfectly juicy patties.
- Onion - It adds extra flavor and moisture to the patties. I prefer grating it into the mixture. You can substitute it with shallots.
- Garlic - I love adding fresh garlic to my burger patties! You can turn it into a paste with a mortar and pestle or grate it with a Microplane. Substitute the fresh garlic with the garlic powder if you prefer.
- Rosemary - I love the aroma of fresh rosemary in my burgers. A little goes a long way as I don't want to overpower the patties. You can substitute it with parsley or thyme if you prefer.
- Seasoning - I use freshly ground pepper and salt to keep things simple.
How to Cook Burgers in Air Fryer?
Making these delicious Hamburger Patties in Air Fryer is very easy.
However, you need to follow a few simple steps to achieve the best results:
Make the Hamburger Patties
To make the patties, place the ground beef, grated onion, garlic, salt, finely chopped rosemary, and freshly ground black pepper in a medium-sized mixing bowl.
Mix together to fold in the other ingredients in the ground beef without over-mixing the mixture.
Preheat the air fryer to 200° C (390° F).
Divide the mixture into 4 or 5, and then shape them into patties around 1 ½ cm (½ ") thick.
Cook and Serve
Add a little dent in the center of each patty and then place them into the preheated air fryer in a single layer.
Cook them in batches if your air fryer basket is not big enough for 4 patties.
Cook the patties for 5 minutes, open the air fryer, and then flip them.
Cook them for another 4-6 minutes.
If you want to top your burgers with cheese, switch off the air fryer, and then top each patty with cheese.
Close the air fryer and then let the cheese melt on the burger for an additional minute.
Remove the patties from the air fryer, place them on buns, and then garnish them with your favorite toppings and sauces.
Hamburger Cooking Temperatures
Rare: 52° C (120 - 125° F) - bright reddish pink throughout.
Medium rare: 57° C (130 - 135° F) - pink throughout.
Medium: 63° C (140 - 145° F) - slightly pink center.
Medium well: 68° C (150 - 155° F) - Mostly brown throughout, with slight pink.
Well done: 71° C (160° F) - Brown throughout.
Use a cooking thermometer to ensure the burger patties are cooked to your desired doneness.
Top Tips From the Chef
- Use ground beef with a minimum of %15 fat content (ideally %30) for the perfectly juicy patties.
- Avoid overworking the ground beef mixture with your hands to prevent tough and chewy hamburgers.
- Divide the ground beef mixture into similar-sized patties to ensure they all cook evenly.
- Don't overcrowd the Air Fryer. Leave some space between each burger so they cook evenly. Do it in batches if your air fryer basket is not big enough for 4 patties.
- Air fryers can vary so make sure to check the doneness of your burgers a couple of minutes in advance to avoid overcooked burger patties. I used a Ninja foodie 8-quart dual-zone air fryer for this air fryer burger recipe.
- Depending on the thickness and size of the burgers, you might need to adjust the cooking time. These timings should be taken as a guide.
- If you want to use frozen burgers, you can cook them from frozen. Add 5 minutes to the cooking time until the center reaches the desired temperature.
Toppings for Air Fryer Hamburgers
There are endless options when it comes to toppings for your air fryer burger patties. My favorite toppings are:
- Streaky bacon
- Cheese (cheddar, smoked gouda, Monterey Jack, and provolone to name a few)
- Sliced tomatoes and red onions
- Mayonnaise
- Iceberg lettuce
- Fried egg
- Pickles
Serving Suggestions
My favorite way to serve homemade air fryer burgers is to serve them in a brioche burger bun along with some toppings.

Recipe FAQs
Although it is best when served freshly made on the day it is prepared, the leftovers will keep fresh in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
Yes, they freeze beautifully if you made your burger patties with fresh ground beef!
If you used frozen burgers, DO NOT freeze the leftovers and consume them in no longer than 48 hours.
I highly recommend flipping your burgers in the air fryer as you would do when cooking them on a grill or a BBQ to ensure they are cooked perfectly on each side.
