Air fryers are amazing kitchen gadgets as they cook food evenly, quickly, and with less oil than traditional deep-frying methods.

I use my air fryer often for making quick and healthy dishes such as Air Fryer Asparagus, Air Fryer Chicken Tenders, Crispy Breaded Air Fryer Okra Recipe, and Fish Sticks in Air Fryer.

When it comes to chicken fajitas, an air fryer can be your new best friend for a dish that's both tasty and healthy.

With this cooking method, you can enjoy tender and juicy chicken with perfectly cooked veggies, all without the extra grease.

    Why This Recipe Works?

    • This air fryer chicken fajitas combines juicy and flavorful chicken with perfectly cooked vegetables.
    • The air fryer cooking method ensures that the chicken and veggies are evenly cooked without the need for excess oil, resulting in a healthier meal option.
    • Quick and easy to prepare, this recipe is perfect for busy weeknights when you want a delicious meal without spending hours in the kitchen.
    • This air fryer chicken fajitas recipe is also versatile. You can customize the seasoning and spice level to your liking, and you can also swap out the chicken for steak or shrimp to create different variations of the dish.
    • There's no need to heat up the oven or worry about using a stovetop, which can make the cooking process even more convenient.

    • Chicken - I use one medium-sized boneless, skinless chicken breast (approximately 150-160 grams) per person and slice it into similar pieces for even cooking. Alternatively, you can also use chicken thighs for this recipe.
    • Peppers - You can use any color of pepper for this recipe. Simply deseed and slice them into even chunks.
    • Red onions - White or yellow onions are also great for this recipe. Peel and slice them into pieces similar in size to the peppers.
    • Fajita seasoning - You can buy it from shops or make your own. All you need is cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, chili, and garlic powder.
    • Oil - Rapeseed oil, light olive oil, avocado oil, corn oil, or any vegetable oil will work fine.

How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas?

Peel and roughly slice the onions, and set them aside.

Add the chicken strips along with the sliced peppers and onions.

Place the chicken and vegetables in the air fryer basket, making sure they are in a single layer.

Cook for 10-12 minutes, tossing occasionally with tongs and checking on it at the 5-minute mark to give it a good shake.

When the fajitas are ready, transfer them to a bowl or serve them in tortilla wraps with some jalapeno peppers, sour cream, salsa, and lime wedges.

    Top Tips From the Chef

    • Cut the chicken and vegetables the same size to ensure even cooking.
    • To add some extra flavor, you can marinate the chicken and vegetables in the spice mixture for a few hours before cooking.
    • Don't overfill the air fryer basket, as this can lead to uneven cooking. It's better to cook the fajitas in batches if needed.
    • Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 74° C (165° F).
    • The cooking time for this recipe may vary depending on the size of your chicken, onion, and bell pepper pieces. If you cut them into smaller chunks, you might want to reduce the cooking time by a couple of minutes.

    Serving Suggestions

    • In a warm Homemade Wheat Tortilla Wrap along with your favorite toppings such as sliced jalapeno peppers, sour cream, salsa, and lime wedges.
    • If you are following a low-carb or keto diet, serve them over a bed of lettuce.
    • Rice is another great alternative as a side dish to accompany these delicious Chicken Fajitas! Why not try this delicious Turkish Rice Pilaf (Sehriyeli Pilav) recipe?
    • Just like Wet Burrito Recipe with Ground Beef, you can serve them with a side of guacamole, grated cheese, Turkish Acili Ezme Salad, or Mango Pico de Gallo - Fresh Mango Salsa.

    Variations

Here are some variations to try with Air Fryer Chicken Fajitas:

    • Swap chicken for steak or shrimp to create a different protein option.
    • Add sliced mushrooms to the vegetable mix for an extra umami flavor.
    • Experiment with different spice blends and herbs to change up the flavor profile. For example, use curry powder for an Indian-inspired twist.

    Storage and Reheating Instructions

To store any leftover chicken fajitas, let them cool down to room temperature before transferring them to an airtight container.

You can then store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.

To reheat, thaw them overnight in the fridge and place them in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes at 350°F (180°C) until heated through.

Alternatively, you can reheat them in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or in a skillet on the stove over medium heat until warmed up.
